Creating an enabling environment for private sector development: Opportunities and Challenges

The University of Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research and Advocacy (CPRA), Tanzania Chamber of Commerce (TCCIA), and Trias Tanzania, organized a Learning Event held at the Sea Cliff Hotel in Dar es Salaam on June 29, 2022. The event, which commenced at 8:30 AM and concluded at 4:00 PM, aimed to foster dialogue between private and public sector entities regarding the business landscape in Tanzania.

Distinguished guests, including business practitioners, leaders of business associations, experts, researchers, policy makers from various Ministries, development partners, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), media representatives, and other influential figures, convened at the event. The main focus was to examine ongoing reforms and explore new opportunities and challenges within Tanzania’s business environment.

A significant aspect of the gathering was the open platform provided for business figures to interact with government officials and development partners. This facilitated robust discussions on policy matters, enabling participants to exchange ideas, network, and learn from each other’s experiences.

The event culminated in the creation of policy briefs and fact sheets designed to engage the government in sustaining positive reforms and addressing emerging challenges faced by businesses in Tanzania. The closing session, starting at 4:30 PM and followed by a networking event from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, encapsulated the essence of the day-long deliberations. The event’s inauguration was conducted by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment.

It provided a conducive environment for comprehensive engagement, fostering collaboration among stakeholders to foster a conducive business environment in Tanzania.
